PHOTOGRAPHY CLASSES

General Information

Helping you take better pictures is our main goal at Leo's Camera Shop. Our photography classes are designed to get you headed in the right direction. All classes are held at 437 Main Street, Klamath Falls, OR. For classes that require a fee, your fee is due at registration. Class sizes are limited so please register early. To register just stop in and fill out a registration form. For more information call us at 541-882-3331.

Cancellation Policy: If you need to withdraw from a class, 48 hour notice is required and a credit toward another class will be issued. If you withdraw without 48 hour notice, your fee will not be refunded.


Digital Photography 1 - Digital Photography Basics

In this two hour class, learn the basics of digital photography. You will have a better understanding of what makes a good picture and things to consider when taking pictures, when you should use a tripod, and when to use a flash. We'll also cover memory storage, battery issues and some of those new "digital" terms. If you only take one digital photography class, this is the one.

Digital Photography 2 - Getting more out of your Digital Camera

In this two hour class, learn how digital photography is changing the way we take pictures. We'll learn what digital zoom is and what file size makes the best pictures. Learn when to delete and when not to. Get a better understanding of resolution/compression and how it affects pictures quality. We'll also cover the different printing options and their pros and cons.

Digital Photography 3 - After the pictures are taken

In this two hour class, we'll continue our discussion on digital imaging. We'll go over what RAW is and how to use it as well as archiving and printing options with digital images. Retouching and editing techniques using Photoshop will be covered. You'll also learn about histograms, what they mean and how they'll benefit you.

Getting the Most Out of Your SLR Camera

In this two hour class, learn more advanced operations of your SLR camera. Bring your camera so you can follow along as we cover the different parts of your SLR and what they do. We'll also cover lens selection, depth of field, film choice, when to use a flash, exposures, filters, and when to use a tripod.
A basic understanding of photography is required, and this class is geared toward the SLR user.

iPhone/iPad Camera Basics

The camera you always have with you is also a very powerful photographic tool. In this two hour class we'll help you understand how to take better photographs using your iPhone or iPad. What apps you should have and how to control the camera will be presented. We'll also look at different ways to organize images, get those images out of your iPhone/iPad for safe storage and cool photo projects. Bring your iPhone/iPad with a charged battery and follow along.

What's all the hype about? Learn how use instagram and take great pictures. We'll show you how to use one of the most powerful cameras in your phone. PHOTO-WALKS
Hands on photographic workshops

Photo-Walks are in the field education for photographers. Whether you're a seasoned veteran or a budding enthusiast, Photo-Walks are designs to improve your photographic skills with a hands on emphasis. Each Photo-Walk starts with a brief lecture on specific techniques and then as a group we'll practice what we have learned in the field.


PHOTO-WALK - Composition, Low Tech Better Pictures

The quickest way to improve your photography is to improve your composition. Understanding composition makes your pictures more pleasing to look at with out having to know all that technical stuff. We'll start in the classroom and move outside for hands on practice of what we have learned. After shooting in the field we'll review our images back in the classroom. Recommended equipment: digital camera, memory card(s), charged batteries, and a tripod (optional).

PHOTO-WALK - f-stop, Controlling Depth of Field

What is depth of field and how do we control it? That's the topic of this Photo-Walk. You'll learn how depth of field effects your pictures and why you need to know how to control it. We'll start in the classroom and move outside for hands on practice of what we have learned. After shooting in the field we'll review our images back in the classroom. Recommended equipment: digital camera with manual control of aperture, memory card(s), charged batteries, and a tripod (optional).

Closeup Photography is fun and interesting. We'll start in the classroom where we will talk about the different options for getting close-up pictures. Then we'll move outside for hands on practice of what we have learned. After shooting in the field we'll review our images back in the classroom. Recommended equipment: digital camera, memory card(s), charged batteries, and a tripod (optional).

PHOTO-WALK - Night Photography

See light differently. We'll start in the store where you will learn the basics of photography at night. Which setting work best and how do you control your exposures. Learn about noise reduction and ISO. Then we'll walk around downtown photographing at night. We'll experient with light painting and long exposure. It's a whole new world at night. Recommended equipment: digital camera, memory card(s), charged batteries, a tripod, flashlight, and warm clothes.
