2/9/09 - Winter Wings Festival Coming

This coming weekend is the 2009 Winter Wings Festival. Canon USA and Leo's Camera Shop are sponsoring several really cool events. This year we are hosting the Photography Workshop and Safari. Canon brings in a huge amount of professional equipment for participants to try out for the day. This year we will be issuing the camera gear on the Friday in the evening so it doesn't take up valuable shooting time on Saturday during the Safari. Saturday morning there's a lecture at OIT going over some of the technology in the Canon Cameras and then it's off to the local refuges. This year we plan to have three large lens. We hope to have an 800mm F5.6, 600mm F4, and 500 F4 setup on the lower Klamath refuge auto route for people to try. Pro Photo Supply of Portland will supply the tripods and wembley heads for use with these amazing lenses. In the afternoon it's back to OIT for a review of the photographs taken and some will be printed out on Canon Professional printers. A printer expert from Pro Photo Supply will be a hand to demonstrate a 24 inch wide printer.

In the evening of Feb. 14, Canon has been nice enough to fly in Adam Jones, a Canon Explorer of Light, for a presentation on bird photography. Adam is well known bird photographer and instructor. This will be a very special event and we've received so much interest that we have had to move the presentation to the OIT auditorium.

On Sunday morning, Adam Jones has agreed to take a small group out for some personal one-on-one tutoring in bird photography in the field trip Shoot with a PRO. This field trip was limited 10 spots and they filled up the first day of registration.

I'm also really excited to be sponsoring the photography contest held at the Winter Wings Festival. Canon and Leo's Camera Shop will provide prizes to "Best of Show - Adult" will win a Canon PRO9000 printer, "Best of Show - Youth" will win a Canon PowerShot A1000 camera and peoples choice will get a $50.00 gift certificate to use at Leo's Camera Shop.

It will be a busy weekend for me but it should be a lot of fun. I'll let you know how it went next week.
